The Mt. Vernon Police Department is a progressive department, with eleven full-time officers. Several officers on the Department have over 20 years of law enforcement experience, with each officer having an average of 10 years experience. Leading the department is Chief David Hubert, and assisting him is Asst. Chief Lacey. We are located in southwest Missouri, and we are also the county seat for Lawrence County. The department serves approximately 5,000 residents and countless other visitors on a daily basis.
The Department takes a very pro-active stance by attempting to stop criminal activity and other problems before they start. Officers use the latest community policing strategies along with stepped-up enforcement programs. The department provides 24-hour patrol to the community, with no less than two officers on duty at any given time. The average response time to any call for service is two minutes.
department has several instructors, which include Taser, Baton,
Firearms, SFST, and Defensive Tactics. If you or your department are
interested in training in any of the above mentioned areas, please
contact us. You can see which Officer is certified in the area you're
interested in by clicking on the "Personnel" button at the top. If you
have any questions, feel free to contact that Officer.
To further our pro-active efforts, the Mt. Vernon Police Department has officers dedicated to the D.A.R.E. Anti-Drug Program, which is led by Asst. Chief Jason Lacey. During the school year, he spends many hours teaching the D.A.R.E. students to elementary students as well as middle school students. Detective Lacey has received many training hours in D.A.R.E. instruction, and is also a D.A.R.E. mentor. Along with this, the Department as a whole works closely with our school system, juvenile courts, and other state support services. For more information about the D.A.R.E. program, follow the link on the previous page.
Officers receive continual training that surpasses all of the training requirements set by the State of Missouri. Our officers are trained in such areas as the newest interview techniques, self-defense, crime scene investigation, emergency medical procedures, and advanced first aid techniques. Most officers have also been cross-trained in fire fighting skills and received specialized training in different areas of law enforcement.
For more information please contact Chief of Police, David Hubert.
